Yuletide!

Hello, Yuletide Writer!

First off, thanks so much for writing a story in one of these fandoms. I love them all, and will just be so glad to have any story for any of the requests.

Some of this letter has been duplicated from previous years, so if you've been here before, that is why things seem familiar. :)

In general, some things I love: great dialogue/witty banter, humor, stories that are bittersweet but still have happy, or at least hopeful endings. I love when stories make me laugh AND cry. I love canon explorations and world-building - what was going on here during this moment, and what was happening elsewhere - and backstory on people and things we only know a little about.

I love character studies, and relationship (not just romance - friendship, family, etc) stories - I always want to know more about these characters I love, why they did this or that, how they react in new situations, that kind of things. Caveat: I don't really love vignettes or navel-gazing pieces, where one character mulls for the entire story on his/her life decisions. I want interaction with other characters and dialogue.

I am very happy with genfic, but I'm fine with romance (slash and het) and porn too. I am also good with characters having babies - especially in futurefic, or where it's canon.

I love crossovers, if they fit with the fandom, time-framewise, tone-wise - I've got some suggestions below. But no pressure if crossovers aren't your thing!

If character pieces aren't your thing, I am extremely happy with adventures of all sorts, or plotty gen stories. Like I said, I love all these characters and want to see them in action. :D

Things I would not like in a fic: extremely grimdark stories. Unhappy endings. I like some hurt/comfort, but not character torture. I would not like genderswap/always-a-different-gender in any of these fandoms. Please no rape/non-con/dubcon, mpreg, misogyny, extreme graphic violence, or character-bashing.

As I said above, I'm good with romance, from fluffy moments, to NC-17 scenes (although I don't want a PWP only; I prefer plot with my porn).

Specific fandom details... )

I hope that helped! And honestly, no pressure to fulfill any of the specific details! Anything you want to write in any of these fandoms will be great! I'm just happy to be getting a story from you.

Thanks again and have fun!

Big love,
Snax

Okay, ASAP didn't end up being that soon, but here is my letter at last!

Hi! First off, thank you so much for writing for me! What follows is going to be a general idea of my likes and dislikes, and some more specific details and ideas, just in case you're interested in that. If you're not, no big deal! We matched on a fandom we both love, so I'll be glad to see what you come up with. Seriously, I am good with optional details are optional, so these are just some ideas -- use what you'd like, ignore what doesn't work for you. :)

Specific Fandoms:

Thank you again for writing for me (and for being patient with the letter)! I'm looking forward to the story and I'm sure I'll love it!

In case you were one of the people wondering!

Regarding Journalfen being down, I checked with the JF admins, and this is what I was told:

It's not down for good. They had to cancel the old servers while migrating to the new ones, because double server payments were too expensive. The problem is that the old LJ code is too hard to install on modern servers now, so they're going to have to try to get a dreamwidth codebase installed and then find a way to import the old entries.

So it's only the old LJ codebase that's gone for good. Evidently it will be tricky importing all the old entries and comments, and it might take a while, but they're pretty sure they can do it!

There should be a placeholder up at journalfen.net soon, explaining this! HERE IT IS!

Unfortunately I had to drop out of Yuletide this year, but. BUT! I STILL GOT THE GREATEST STORY IN THE WORLD!

No, your story isn't greater. Yes, I will fight you on this -- which is appropriate, because my story features a fight:

This Fic Has Everything (2140 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Saturday Night Live, Saturday Night Live RPF, Pundit & Broadcast Journalist RPF (US)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Seth Meyers/Stefon
Characters: Seth Meyers, Stefon (Saturday Night Live), Anderson Cooper
Additional Tags: Boxing & Fisticuffs, Clubbing, Drinking, Yuletide
Summary:

The fic that answers the question: why aren't there more fics where Seth Meyers fights Anderson Cooper for Stefon's love? Featuring Viola Gayvis, the broken bottle firewalk down the block from the Port Authority, the promoter duo of Don King and Don Lemon, and MTV's Dan Cortese.

Holy smokes! This fic truly lives up to its title. If you, like me, love Stefon and Seth Meyers, DO NOT HESITATE! Read this immediately because you will laugh your ass off, guaranteed! And then give the anonymous writer all the praise and kudos they deserve because this is the most fabulous Yuletide fic EVER.

Today was the day for reveals for the 2014 Narnia Fic Exchange and for NFE Madness, so let's talk about fic.

First off, I received the most gorgeous story:

As The Waves Make Towards The Pebbl'd Shore (3928 words) by rthstewart
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Caspian/Peter Pevensie
Characters: Caspian (Narnia), Peter Pevensie
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Time Shenanigans
Summary:

Once you are dead, you cannot want wrong things anymore. Caspian wants another 5 minutes on a round world.

Ruth put so much care and effort into making this story perfect for me, and I just LOVE it! Peter/Caspian! My beloved OTP! Getting a chance at a happy-for-a-while, if not a happy ever after! It's perfect and sweet, and she used so much of my headcanon in this (Peter being a musician, and Caspian an artist!) and it just made me grin from ear to ear as I read it.

Okay, on to the fic I wrote.

Endless Roads to Travel, Endless Lives to Live (3353 words) by Snacky
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Polly Plummer
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe
Summary:

Three adventures Polly Plummer never had, and two she gave to others.

This was written for [personal profile] redsnake05 for this prompt: I can't imagine Polly settling down to an ordinary life after her adventures. I'd be happy to see her back in England figuring out who she is and what she's doing, or perhaps a canon divergence where she and Digory get to have more adventures in Narnia or in other worlds. Perhaps there is a threat to the Tree during the Golden Age, and she and Digory get sent back to deal with it? Feel free to include other characters or OCs as needed.

I was so happy with this prompt! I have a lot of headcanon for Polly (OBVIOUSLY) and I always wanted her to have more adventures after The Magician's Nephew. Also, I didn't like that last glimpse of Polly we had in The Last Battle, so I wanted to write something that eased that a bit. I had SO MUCH FUN writing this. It could have been a lot longer, if I had more time - I wanted Polly to have a few more adventures - but as it was, it worked as a kind of five things fic: three adventures for Polly, and two that she had a hand in. I wanted to spend much more time on the day sorcery, because that was delightful to think about magical uses for. I feel like I could write a whole book about that. Maybe someday!

For NFE Madness I wrote a little ficlet for [personal profile] vialethe:

The World Spins Madly On (555 words) by Snacky
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis, The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle-Earth - J. R. R. Tolkien
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Maglor/Susan Pevensie
Characters: Susan Pevensie, Maglor
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe, Crossover, Crossover Pairings
Summary:

Just a quick ficlet of Susan Pevensie and Maglor living an eternal life

Because she loves Susan/Maglor and she's my partner in crime in crack ships. I had fun with this, because I love that ship too, and it's just fun to think of Susan and Maglor living forever with each other. I wanted to make this longer too, but oh, my terrible time management skills!

The Narnia Fic Exchange stories went live today. It's a week before the authors are revealed, and if you want to try to guess what story I wrote, I will write you a ficlet of your choice (fandom/pairing I am familiar with) if you guess correctly! Find the stories here! :D

And if you feel like trying your hand at some Narnia fic, you can participate in NFE Madness! Pick from the prompts here, and post your story to this collection. You have a week to write a story (or stories!) and post them, and there is no length requirement! They will be revealed next Sunday.

A snippet from the ongoing Narnia/ASOIAF crossover crackfic. Susan Pevensie and Jon Snow, being feelsy and sassy after some post-reunion sexytimes.

I posted a short bit of this on tumblr, this is the longer version... )

For a story I'm not writing, I spend a lot of time working on it. :D

For the meme, [personal profile] musesfool gave me AL and AM:

AL. Talk about a review that made your day.

Pretty much ANY review makes my day, ngl. But I've had some really lovely ones! Basically any of the reviews for New York Is a State of Mind, but Cicely Is a Way of Life because so many people said such nice things about that fic. I often go back and reread them to cheer myself up when I am feeling down about my writing.

AM. Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?

Very rarely, and it's usually only only on ff.net. I usually just play dumb in response, like, "Really? Thanks for letting me know!" Sometimes I want to be rude back, but it's not worth it.

Hey let's do a meme, wouldn't that be fun! As seen on tumblr!

Leave a comment with one of these and I'll post, without editing*:

FIRST — the first two sentences of my current project
LAST — the most recently written two sentences of my current project
NEXT — the next line. meaning i will finish the sentence I’m on and write a new one, which you’ll get.
[insert prompt here] — you post a prompt, and i’ll write three sentences based on that prompt, set in the same time/setting as my current project
THE END — i’ll make up an ending, or post the ending if i’ve written it
BEFORE THE BEGINNING — three sentences (or more) about something that happened before the plot of my current project
POV — something that’s already happened, retold from another character’s perspective

*okay, I might have to edit some names out of an exchange fic, but that's about it.

Hit me up!

I mean, I keep telling myself that and yet... )

1) I have no idea what's going on with Livejournal, but it's become next to impossible for me to use at work. Strangely, this is not any of work's doing. There seems to be some problem with Firefox and LJ not playing nice with each other. I can't comment on entries, nor can I read long comment threads (can't expand). I've followed LJ's suggestions, but none of them work. Basically, I'll have to use another browser just to read LJ. SIGH. LJ, I want to keep using you, but you make it so hard. ETA: If you comment on this entry on LJ, I can't reply, it won't let me. :(

2) If you follow me on the Facebook, you will have seen this already, but if not, here's Snacky health news: I am having an MRI today to determine a diagnosis for my back and leg pain. The x-rays already showed arthritis (severe facet arthopathy was the term used), so the MRI is to figure out why I have terrible nerve pain and numbness in my legs (spinal stenosis is a suspect).

So I have to lie flat and unmoving on my back for 35 minutes for the MRI. Aaaaaand due to the pain, that's one thing I have a lot of trouble doing. I've been practicing for a week, can only make it to 12 minutes without moving. So my wonderful doctor has given my a combo of sedatives and pain pills to take, in the hope that I will be able to make it the entire 30 minutes.

Basically I will be doped out of my mind. :D Which is probably good, since I've been having massive anxiety about this whole thing.

3) So I think my new boss is a bit of a flake. First there was the whole review thing where she tried to give me a review for a year when she only supervised me for 6 weeks. Yesterday, she sent out the new edition of our email newsletter, and asked me to link to it on the website, FB, and Twitter. She asked me the same thing last month, and I said I couldn't link to an email, unless she had a link to give me, since I can't just link to inboxes. But she didn't have a link, since she builds it as an email in Constant Contact. So I suggested that I would make a news post on our website and FB and Twitter about it, and link to our sign-up form, so people could sign up to receive the email. And she said, "Oh, that's a great idea!" So that was what we did last month.

I reminded her we had this conversation last month, and she was like, "Oooooh. Right. Well, can you recreate it on the website?" I told her I could, but it wouldn't look exactly like the email, since she's using Constant Contact's templates, but I could recreate it the best I could. "Won't that be too much work?" she asked, and I said, not really, if that's what she wanted me to do. But then I reminded her that the reason she wanted an email newsletter was so that people would sign up and give us their contact info, which she wants for funding/donor campaigns, and if we put the newsletter on the website, aren't we defeating that purpose? "Good point!" said she. "Keep doing what you're doing!"

I'm wondering if we'll have this conversation again next month.

I finally saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier over the weekend. So late, I know! I was not out of the theater before I was texting [personal profile] musesfool about my STEVE AND BUCKY FEEEEEEEELS.

It was a really great movie - a combo of superhero movie and seventies spy thriller. Everything I wanted and more! My favorite (and the best) of all the MCU movies so far! I loved everyone and everything in it, and I am spoilers )

Basically I am totally kind of totally obsessed with it right now. I'll talk more after I've read ALL the fic. :D
